Digital Hall Pass System
Dear Parents and Guardians,
Pilot Point Middle School will officially go live with SmartPass on Monday, August 31st. SmartPass is a digital hall pass system designed to help us better manage student movement during the school day while improving safety, accountability, and instructional time.
Students access SmartPass through ClassLink on their Chromebooks and use it when they need to leave class for approved locations such as the restroom, water fountain, nurse, counselor, front office, or another approved destination.
Why are we using SmartPass?
Safer School Spaces
SmartPass gives our staff greater visibility of student movement throughout the building. This helps us identify areas that may need additional supervision, reduce unnecessary hallway traffic, and prevent students from gathering in unsupervised areas.
More Instructional Time
By simplifying the hall pass process, teachers can spend less time managing paper passes and interruptions and more time focused on instruction. SmartPass also helps students return to class promptly, maximizing valuable learning time.
Student Responsibility & Accountability
Students can create and manage their passes electronically, allowing them to see how they are using their time outside of class. Our goal is to help students develop greater responsibility for their time while still providing appropriate staff oversight.
Support for Individual Student Needs
SmartPass allows us to customize pass settings when appropriate to support individual student needs and accommodations, including additional time, scheduled nurse visits, walking breaks, and other approved supports—all while maintaining student privacy.
Simplified School Operations
SmartPass provides one consistent system for managing student movement throughout the building. It also helps our staff more efficiently manage students who are arriving late to class or need to report to various locations on campus.
What Parents Should Know
SmartPass does not prevent students from accessing the places they need during the school day. Students will continue to have access to restrooms, water, the nurse, counselors, offices, and other appropriate locations. The system simply provides a safer and more accountable way to manage that movement.
As with any new system, we will continue working with our students and staff as everyone becomes familiar with SmartPass. We appreciate your support as we use this tool to help keep Pilot Point Middle School safe, organized, and focused on learning.
Thank you for your continued partnership and support of our students!
